Owls are known for their arrogance, according to other species. They are quite confident in their abilities and enjoy showing off. Blodeuwedd may be quite serious, but she has a knack for theatrics, and enjoys mocking her prey in order to anger it. Her arrogant manner of speaking has gotten her into a few dangerous situations. She's usually quiet, focused and a force to be reckoned with. Those that have met her and spoken to her have found her knowledgeable and understanding, though at times cold. She has a bitter sense of humor.
This story takes place in a fantasy world populated by anthropomorphic animals, having their own kingdoms, lands, wars... An entire other life. The Land of Eirian.
Among these anthropomorphic animals were those of the Owl Kingdom. Owls were always known to be proud avians. Gareth, a Great Horned Owl and current King of the Owls, was no exception. He was still a young King, by the standards of the Kingdom, but he was just. His people were joyous, and the Kingdom was prosperous.
Gareth's closest friend was Blodeuwedd, an expert in Archery and also head of the Royal Guard. She and Gareth had been childhood friends, their paths quite different and yet they never separated. There was peace and prosperity in the Owl Kingdom for a time... Until the War broke out.
Gareth had received word that the neighboring Avian country, the Kingdom of Accipitridae, had declared war on them. They had already begun their attack and had set fire to one of the farming villages near the border. Growing angry that the Accipitridae had decided on War, Gareth ordered an immediate counter attack. The Owls prided themselves on being better archers than any other Avian Kingdoms, and soon, the two Countries fought one another.
The War lasted a couple of years and ended with the Owl Kingdom victorious-- however, Gareth had taken ill at this time. It was unclear as to what had infected the young King (he was only 25), but the people had their suspicions... Black magic, poison... Any option that could have hurt their king. Blodeuwedd went on countless journeys in order to find a cure, and finally when she returned, she had been informed that her dear friend, the King, had passed on. Feeling as though he had failed Gareth, Blodeuwedd vowed to never leave the new King's side.
Gareth's uncle, Trahaearn, had been the only next-of-Kin that could have been made King. Where Gareth was honest, strong and kind, Trahaearn was deceptive, sly and cruel. Where once the Owl Kingdom had been a beacon of peace, soon the Kingdom had fallen into paranoia and power-lust. King Trahaearn had convinced the Kingdom that in order for its survival, they would have to take over more land, show the other Avian Countries their true might.
Soon, the Owl Kingdom began to wage wars all across the continent, even against the Mammalian and Reptilian Kingdoms. Enough was enough, and Blodeuwedd could no longer bear to see her Kingdom (and its people) become such a monster. She openly disagreed with the King, exclaiming that this was not the way of the Owl People, specifically the Tytonidae (her line of ancestry), and she wanted no place in such a Kingdom.
Respecting her wishes, King Trahaearn had her banished from the Kingdom henceforth, telling her that she would be shot on sight if she ever tried to return to the castle.
Blodeuwedd knew that she had to keep the memory of her friend alive, and that she would fight for the lesser people, the unfortunate folk who were at the mercy of their Kings and Queens. She would fight for the people, as Gareth had. Years passed, and Blodeuwedd's memory had mostly faded from the Owl Kingdom, but revived anew as The Avian Archer, a lone figure traversing the land, helping the weak and preying on the strong.
To catch a glimpse of her and remain alive was to cheat death, some would say. Rumors brewed in the Owl Kingdom that this mysterious figure was bound for its borders, and would one day come for the King, in order to "Restore the Past."
